The Leadership and Members of Ghana HIV and AIDS Network ( GHANET), has represented at the ghana county coordinating mechanism ( CCM ) over 350, 000 persons living with HIV in Ghana.

According to Mr. Amoabeng Ortsin, we are here as a voice for the over 250, 000 adults and over 12, 000 children who are currently surviving on anti retroviral medication.

We are also speaking on behalf of the over 235,000 children who have been orphaned by AIDS.

He said, The lives of these persons are in grave danger if we do not act. The global fund, which has been the signals largest donor to our national HIV and AIDS response since 2002, is now sending strong signals that they may be cutting back on their support to our country, especially with regards to the supply of free ART medication and other essential commodities required in our fight against HIV and AIDS.

He said, Meanwhile new HIV infections in the last five years alone have averaged 19,00 per year according to the National AIDS/STI Control programme ( NACP). Even more disturbingly, the number of AIDS related deaths in the last five years have also averaged 14,000 per year.

He added that, Clearly, this is not acceptable. How do we justify these alarming number of deaths to a disease that is preventable and for which treatment is available? He said, our first appeal goes to the president of the republic, His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, incidentally, is the chairman of the Governing board of GAC.

We wish to respectfully remind his excellent that in 2021, at the united nations high level meeting on HIV and AIDS, he pledged to commit US$ 100 million, over a five years period, into the national HIV and AIDS fund.

With reference to recent reports about the resurgence of the HIV and AIDS menace, we believe this is the perfect time for the president to honour his ward.

Ghana Aids commission act 938, had delayed. According to the act, the only person who can activate the fund is the finance minister, Mr. Ken Ofori Atta, and I urge him to unfailingly activate the fund in the 2023 budget,” he said.
