“Government Initiative Supports Local Businesses”
The Deputy Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, Hon. Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, has emphasized the importance of empowering youth through entrepreneurship to address the challenge of unemployment. The government has launched an initiative to support local businesses, providing seed capital of between GHC 60,000 and GHC 75,000 to four groups in areas such as poultry farming, fish farming, and snail rearing.

The Deputy Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to job creation and entrepreneurship development. The initiative is expected to promote local economic development, create jobs, and empower youth.
The program is part of a larger initiative, with selected Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) participating in the pilot project. The government aims to scale up the initiative to cover all MMDAs, providing training and support to youth entrepreneurs.
The Ministry of Agriculture has pledged to support the initiative, providing soft loans and capital to farmers and investors. The Department of Agriculture will also be involved in the project, providing technical support and guidance to beneficiaries.
