The Geriatric Hub, a healthcare facility dedicated to supporting the health and well-being of aged people, has launched a health screening exercise in Accra, Ghana. The exercise aims to promote healthy aging and provide quality healthcare services to the aged.
At the launch event, Executive Director Dr. Priscilla Y. A. Attafuah emphasized the importance of healthy lifestyles for the aged, saying “Healthy people translate into healthy growth.” She advised the aged to adopt healthy habits and seek health services regularly to prevent health challenges that come with old age.
So it’s to also mark the 34 UN International Day of older persons.
“Theme” was the role of older people in society.
Dr. Attafuah noted that the aged are cherished stakeholders who provide wisdom and direction to the youth, but their health can be affected by wear and tear, lifestyles, and bad habits. She stressed that as people age, their immune systems are compromised, leading to morbidities and mortalities.
The health screening exercise includes health talks, screenings, and consultations with healthcare professionals. The Geriatric Hub’s team of healthcare professionals will provide comprehensive health checks, including blood pressure, blood sugar, and body mass index (BMI) screenings.
The launch event was attended by aged people from the local community, who expressed gratitude for the initiative. “I’m so glad I came for this screening,” said one attendee. “I learned so much about my health and what I need to do to stay healthy.”
The Geriatric Hub’s health screening exercise is a step towards promoting healthy aging and providing quality healthcare services to the aged. The facility plans to continue offering regular health screenings and health talks to support the health and well-being of aged people in the community.
