Man abandons wife after birth of triplets
A 36-year-old man, Samuel Boateng, a barber has reportedly abandoned his wife, Gloria Teye, after she gave birth to all male triplets, a few years after delivering twins. Gloria Teye, a 25-year-old mother, from Nkurakan in Yilo Krobo municipality is currently stranded at the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua.
She initially delivered the triplets at home by herself but was later transported to a local health facility before being referred to the Regional Hospital. Gloria is currently admitted to the hospital, while the triplets are receiving care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and Kangaroo mother care services.
According to Gloria, her husband left the hospital after being informed by a nurse that she had given birth to triplets. Since then, Samuel has not answered any of her calls. “My husband left the hospital after the nurse informed him that I had given birth to triplets. We tried to call him several times, but he did not answer our calls,” Gloria Teye recounted.
This new set of triplets brings the couple’s total number of children to seven, including a pair of twins and two other children. Gloria regretted having more children, especially given her husband’s reaction.
She shared that Samuel had previously expressed concerns about the financial burden of raising multiple children, citing the struggles he faces in maintaining his barbershop, which is reportedly on the brink of collapse due to high electricity tariffs and low patronage.
“The last time I gave birth to twins, and now triplets. I think that’s why he is unhappy; he told me during my pregnancy that things were hard. Even the four children we already have are a burden to him. My husband runs a barbershop in Nkurakan, but the shop is near collapsing due to high electricity tariffs and low patronage,” she added.
The distraught mother is now appealing to the general public for financial assistance to pay her hospital bills.
“We need financial support from everyone, at least to pay my hospital bills for now. We beg Ghanaians to help us,” she pleaded
The hospital authorities have also raised concerns about the increasing number of mothers stranded at the facility due to their inability to settle their medical bills despite being discharged.
