Mahama’s 24-Hour Economy Strategy Praised for Job Creation Potential
Hon. Chief Calistus Elozieuwa, BOT Chairman, has endorsed former President John Mahama’s 24-hour economy strategy, citing its potential to create jobs in various sectors, including construction, transportation, tourism, and day-in, day-out businesses.
These industries are considered multi-million dollar markets with the potential to become the largest employers globally.
According to Chief Calistus, a 24-hour economy would thrive in Ghana, where economic activities typically occur during the day. By extending operations into the night, businesses can increase productivity and job opportunities, especially for the youth.
The 24-hour economy strategy involves encouraging businesses to operate around the clock, using a three-shift system. This approach can enhance productivity and job creation, ultimately contributing to Ghana’s economic growth.
Chief Calistus emphasized that some businesses are capable of producing around the clock if provided with the necessary enabling environment. He believes that Mahama’s 24-hour economy strategy can change business dynamics across all sectors if well implemented.
The focus will be on the constructions, transportation and tourism sectors to determine how the 24-hour economy strategy can generate economic value and add to Ghana’s Gross Domestic Product.
