Former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, has joined forces with the former Prime Minister of Burkina Faso to promote peaceful elections in Ghana. As the leader of the West Africa Elders Forum (WAEF), Jonathan met with Ghana’s National Election Security Task Force (NESTF) to discuss preparations for a violence-free election.
Jonathan praised NESTF for their warm reception and commended their efforts in ensuring a peaceful electoral process. He emphasized the importance of a violence-free election, highlighting Ghana’s democratic standards as a shining example for the rest of Africa.
The former Nigerian president urged all stakeholders to work together to ensure a peaceful election, stressing that unity and peace are essential for the country’s growth and development.
Jonathan’s visit comes just days before the December 7 general elections, and his message of peace and unity is seen as a significant boost to Ghana’s electoral process.
Fabio Bargiacchi, Executive Director of the European Centre for Electoral Support, commended EC for their thorough preparations ahead of the December 7th elections. From the headquarters down to the smallest constituency, Bargiacchi expressed his admiration for the commission’s hard work.
He confidently stated that he believes the electoral process will be free, fair, and transparent, come December 7th. Bargiacchi also highlighted the crucial role of Jane Mensah, Secretary to the Association of African Elections Authority, in ensuring that Africa witnesses one of its best elections in terms of fairness.
As the leader of the European Centre for Electoral Support, Bargiacchi’s endorsement carries significant weight, given his organization’s extensive experience in providing electoral assistance worldwide.
