Azubila commended the president-elect, John Dramani Mahama, and the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for not allowing their party agents and supporters to participate in the “shambolic recollation process,” which he said would have plunged the country into a serious crisis.

Azubila alleged that the current EC Chairperson, Jean Mensah, and her team have become a “big threat to Ghana’s democracy,” accusing them of blatant bias in favor of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). The ADAM-GH executive secretary called for a “national discussion on how we can factor in a neutral Electoral Commission who can build public confidence once again,” noting that the 60% voter turnout in the 2024 general elections was a “warning signal of the general public losing confidence in our democracy due to lack of confidence and mistrust of Madam Jean Mensah and her team.”

Azubila urged the NDC to use “legitimate and peaceful means to restore seats taken from them” and called on all Ghanaians to come together to “sanitize the EC to rebuild public confidence in the Institution.

“He also suggested that Parliament should reconsider the process of appointing electoral commissioners and explore constitutional amendments to address the issue.

The press conference highlighted the growing concerns over the perceived bias and lack of impartiality within Ghana’s electoral management body, raising questions about the integrity of the country’s democratic processes
