EU delivers €1 million support to strengthen the operational capacity of the Ghana Immigration service.

Following the successful conduct of the Accra initiative conference, the European Union(EU) has delivered on it’s commitment to enhance Ghana’s security by donating equipment to improve the operating capacities of the Ghana Immigration Service(GIS),

including five motor bikes with helmets
The gesture will support the GIS in it’s efforts to ensure greater security for citizens and visitors, while guaranteeing the respect for the rule of law and human rights standards by border management authorities.

This is the second dination by the EU to GIS within the framework of the Strengthening Border Security in Ghana project( SBS Ghana).

Speaking at the handing over ceremony today, the Ambassador of EU to Ghana, His Excellency Orchard Razaaly stated that the EU will continue to strengthen it’s partnership with Ghana in the fight against transnational organised crimes and border security with technical trainings,

supporting law enforcement agencies to aquire knowledge, skills and tools to reinforce their efforts against international organised crime and insecurity on land.

On her part, the deputy Minister of the Interior honorable Naana Eyiah said Ghana cherishes the contnuous support offered by the EU,as it enhances Ghana’s national security strategy and strengthens regional security.

According to the framework of the SBS project, the EU in the next phase(2023) will provide ten laptops, two pick-up vehicles and border patrol equipment’s to increase increase the operational capacity of the GIS.
