_GHANA ELECTIONS: Apostle Doctor Walter Saakwa Mante Calls for Peace and Restraint Amid Parliamentary Seat Dispute_

Accra, Ghana – Apostle Doctor Walter Saakwa Mante has issued a statement calling for peace and restraint amid the ongoing dispute over the vacation of parliamentary seats.

The Supreme Court’s recent directions have sparked tensions between Parliament and the Judiciary, prompting Apostle Doctor Saakwa Mante to urge all parties involved to avoid escalating tensions as the December 7 polls approach.

In his statement, Apostle Doctor Saakwa Mante emphasized the need for a deep reflection on the relevant constitutional provisions governing parliamentary seats, especially during election years.

He stressed that this is vital to ensure that remedies are available for affected individuals and parties without plunging the nation into legal or political uncertainty.

Apostle Doctor Saakwa Mante’s party has consistently demonstrated its commitment to peace and stability in Ghana, signing the Peace Accord despite having genuine concerns about the electoral process in the past.

The party has always prioritized peace, even when challenging the results of the 2012 elections in court and harboring doubts about the neutrality of the Electoral Commission.

The current dispute highlights the complex relationship between Parliament and the Judiciary in Ghana. While the courts generally avoid interfering with Parliament, it is clear that Parliament is not a law unto itself.

Its powers to make laws and regulate its procedures, as outlined in articles 93 and 110 of the Constitution, are expressly stated to be ‘subject to the Constitution.’

Apostle Doctor Saakwa Mante’s call for peace and restraint is seen as a crucial step in maintaining stability and promoting a peaceful democratic process in Ghana.

As the nation approaches the December 7 polls, all eyes are on the parties involved to ensure that the elections are conducted peacefully and transparently.
