I know my level, I won’t debate Bawumia – Mahama tells Akufo-Addo
Former President John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, has rejected President Akufo-Addo’s call for a debate with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, ahead of Ghana’s December 7 elections.
Mahama made his stance clear during a mini-rally in Prampram, as part of his Greater Accra Region campaign.
Mahama argued that debating Bawumia would not contribute meaningfully to the conversation and instead highlighted his own achievements during his presidency.
He criticized Bawumia’s economic management, citing the hardships faced by Ghanaians under the current government. Mahama believes that engaging in a debate would only provide Bawumia with an undeserved platform.
Mahama emphasized that Bawumia doesn’t deserve a debate, stating, “He is losing this election. I will not elevate him to my level and go and sit and debate him.”
He also noted that the NPP’s campaign is struggling, lacking a clear message, and that Bawumia seeks to be elevated to Mahama’s level.
“Their campaign is failing. They have no message and so, he wants to be elevated to my level. No. No. No. No. I know my level,” he said.
This development follows a similar stance taken by Isaac Adongo, a Ranking Member on Parliament’s Finance Committee, who previously stated that Mahama will not engage in a debate with Bawumia due to the latter’s perceived dishonesty and incompetence.
