CPP calls for debate following NAPO’s controversial remarks

In a bold move to address recent controversial statements made by Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, the running mate of the ruling NPP, the Convention People’s Party (CPP) has challenged him to a public debate.

This comes after Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s assertion that no government in Ghana’s history has outperformed the current administration, not even under the leadership of “Your Dr. Kwame Nkrumah”, Ghana’s first president and widely acclaimed African statesman.

The call for debate was articulated by Director of Communications for the CPP, Sylvester Sarpong Saprano, during an interview with Atinka TV’s news anchor, Ebenezer Kewaw Madugu, on the midday news.

Saprano expressed deep concern over Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s remarks, emphasizing that such assertions diminish the monumental contributions of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah to Ghana’s independence and national development. “We urge Ghanaians not to take NAPO seriously because his comments reflect a lack of respect for the foundational values of patriotism and national unity,” – Saprano asserted.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s statement, which has sparked widespread debate and criticism, insinuated that the current government has surpassed all previous administrations in terms of achievements, including those led by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, who is revered as one of Africa’s most influential leaders.

The CPP, founded on the principles and legacy of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, views such comments as not only historically inaccurate but also disrespectful to Ghana’s founding father and the ideals upon which the nation was built. Saprano reiterated that a debate would provide an opportunity to thoroughly examine and debunk the assertions made by Dr. Opoku Prempeh, ensuring that the public is well-informed about the true historical context and achievements of Ghana’s past leaders.
