The Catholic archdiocese of Accra has presented the commissioning of the catechist 2023 under the theme “But you will receive power when the holy spirit comes upon you and you will be my witness” Acts 1:8 at St. John the Evangelist catholic church in adenta.
Speaking to the media most Rev John Kobina Louis said those that have been commissioned as catechist have been training for about two(2) years so they have gotten more knowledge about the Catholic church and are ready to impact this knowledge to others of the Catholic faith, as the archbishop of Accra metropolitan most Rev John Bonaventure Kwofie has mandated him to commission them so they can assist anyone who wants to become a Catholic or know more about the Catholic worship and their life style.
Most Rev John kobina Louis went furthermore about the importance of a catechist to the church and our entire mother ghana. He said catechist have a lot of work to do as there are a lot of children, young ones and even adults who needs more understanding, insights or clarifications about the Catholic faith.
Again he advice all commissioned catechist to live a better life so that others will have the willingness to follow and learn from their footsteps.
In addition the president of the catechist of Accra archdiocese Mr. Andrew Gyan also told the media that to become a catechist is the Catholic church, one will need to follow the procedure of firstly making your intention known to your pastor in charge since he oversees everything in the parish and represent the bishop at the local level, after which the pastor will let you go through the beginners training course and after the course the priest will access and see if the will power is still there to become a catechist before you will be commissioned as a catechist.
Mr. Andrew Gyan urge all his fellow newly commissioned catechist to always learn to get more understanding about the Catholic faith and the things if God.
In conclusion, Charles Mensah Nyamedi who is also one of the newly commissioned catechist of St Peters Catholic church in Adjen Kotu a sub of Accra also thanked all his colleagues for adhering to the call of God and urge all to come together as one big family to achieve the goal of serving the church and God.
