Towards Government efforts to improve healthcare delivery, One of the major challenges confronting the Ghana Mental Health Authority is the erratic supply of Psychotropics in the country.
Given this, the President of the Pharmacist in Mental Health Ghana (PMHGH), Dr. Richmond Adusa-Poku has urged pharmacists in mental health Care to support the government in the supply and availability of Psychotropics in the country.
According to the association, the vision is to bring together healthcare professionals from all sectors especially Pharmacist to develop a keen interest in mental healthcare, and to focus on mental health issues since the training of specialists is underway to ensure that members of healthcare such as Pharmacists can play a critical role in mental health delivery in the country.
Dr. Adusa added that society perceives mental health to be madness but the association does not see it that way rather someone who is stressed, anxious, and others are symptoms of mental health issues.
Dr. Adusa-Poku disclosed this at the launch of the Pharmacists in Mental Ghana (PMHGH)association and unveiled the association emblem in Accra.
On her Part CE of Mental Health Authority, Professor Pinaman Appau commended the association for putting themselves together to support the Mental Health Authority towards the delivery of healthcare.
According to her, the Mental Authority’s major challenge is the supply and availability of Psychotropics where concerns need to be channeled.
She noted that the pharmacist has lightened them on the usage of the broadcasting which is used to determine the quantum of medicine available.
